The Case of the Missing Money
(Posted by Kirk 8/22/06)
I live in a high-rise condominium building.
There's a lobby with a bulletin board where people post important things that the other residents need to know.
I thought it would be a good place to keep an extra dollar, in case I needed it in the lobby.
"Please leave this money here. I'm saving it for later." |
The next day, someone had taken my money. Despite the fact that my note specifically asked people not to take it.
So, I put up another note, clearly identifying the problem and the what the stolen money looked like.
I even used quotation marks to emphasize certain words. This is much more powerful than using italics, underlining or boldifying of text.
The next day, my second note was stolen also!
I decided that it was time to offer a reward. I figured that a building full of respectable people, someone must have seen the culprit. |
I made sure to include the reward with the sign.
Guess what?!
That sign and the money with it, were stolen also!
This thief is slipperier than I'd guessed. And ruthless, too. He or she stole three dollars from me without any apparent remorse or hesitation. |
