Eric's Tricycle

(Posted 7/24/05)

The first of Eric's vehicles was his tricycle. It's great fun to ride. Partially because it steers using the rear wheels. This can really throw you off unless you're used to driving forklifts, street-sweepers or Zambonis.

Eric uses it for many of his errands. The grocery store is about a mile away, so he rides it there all the time. It's better than driving the car that short distance and it always gets looks.

Eric's right hand is on a handle where both the shifters and one of the brakes are. The other brake is on the handle you can see off to his left side. that handle can also be used like a rudder to steer the tricycle, if you don't want to use the steering wheel.

That's redundancy!

You can see the tricycle's handy basket, which can be used for carrying groceries.

If you're looking at the extra chain and pedal assembly underneath Eric, you should know that is for the steering. All the propulsion is from that short chain on the front wheel.

So the steering system and the propulsion system all come together at the very front of the trike.

It's pretty cool.
